Underwater swimming pool lights: The phasing out of traditional light bulbs
On 1st September 2009 the EU started the mandatory phase out of 100W and frosted incandescent non-directional light bulbs. This new legislation to cut wasted energy and high electricity bills was agreed by EU Member States last December with support of the UK.
Due to this new legislation the Certikin Halogen 100W 11.5V Bulbs are affected and as they are ‘non directional’ and by law are due to be phased out by 2012, Certikin have now ceased the manufacturing of these. Therefore once existing stocks run out the Certikin Halogen Underwater Light will be unavailable.
We at Aspects are keen to cut down on the use of energy-inefficient products which cost people more money to run and are bad for the environment as they have higher carbon emissions. We will therefore try and switch our current customers away from less energy efficient lamps as soon as possible in order to comply with the regulations. This will also assist the UK in meeting carbon emissions targets, will reduce your swimming pool running costs and its carbon footprint.
We have been working hard on sourcing various energy efficient lighting solutions across a number of brands which have included Astral Swimming Pool Lights, Savi LED Pool Lights and Plastica Pool Lighting.
Nevertheless as Certikin are the dominant leader in the UK Pool Lighting market it has been imperative for them to develop an alternative efficient product. They have introduced the Certikin LED swimming pool light which will be sold alongside their TK LED pool lights. They are capable of producing 75% of the brightness of a standard 100W bulb, yet it saves 80% of the electricity consumption. Additionally an LED light gives a much more even spread of light within the pool. This long lasting unit, with a life of up to 80,000 hours will save you in excess of £300 in electricity and bulb changes over a 10 year period of average use in an indoor pool of only 600 hours per year.
Certikin have developed a series of conversion kits which will be available from November 2009 and will enable all existing Certikin lights to be upgraded to LED.
To convert a Certikin Halogen Light to LED use the new Halogen to LED conversion kit (PU9HL) which costs £399.
To convert a Certikin PU8 300W bulb or an old type Mark 1 Halogen light to LED use the LED conversion guts with 2.8m cable (PU93HL) which will cost £440.
Many existing PAR 56 type lamps from other suppliers can also be converted using the PLQW0800 White LED lamp only.
